Like you would decribe in a story book, a typical eupoean village setting, the gorgeous snow covered mountains, a small stream, deserted streets. And, that's what it is - Hallein. It's 20 minutes on a fast train from salzburg enroute the salt mines.

Die Bahn in the snow

Pretty as she is, snow, reminds me of the conscripts of the wartime movies. Whoever you are, the heat humbles you. You walk with your head tucked into your chest, with no nerve to look up.

Tufts of cotton

There can never be another first time. The first experiences of sight of snow float around like tufts of cotton was quite breath taking. We sit in the train and watch the snow blow into our faces, but only the window keeping us apart. Not for long we enjoyed this beauty from warmth of the train.

The DB belched us out, the people were flocking out of the train with the warm clothing, few had the skiing equipment on, and then there was us with our make-believe winter wear.
The first time I was in the snow I was so thrilled that I forgot to feel cold.
